Bel Air, MD – The Leader Transition Institute Inc., Maryland’s premier provider of services for transitioning military personnel, veterans, and military spouses is excited to announce they have contracted with heARTS for Healing, Inc, a 501(c)(3) organization based in Denton, Nebraska to provide artistic support for their programming.
“We are thrilled to partner with heARTS for Healing to bring artistic excellence to our programs. Cara Loken’s creative expertise will not only enhance the experience of those we serve but also amplify our shared mission to create meaningful and lasting impact. Together, we’re proving that collaboration is the art of making a difference.” said Annie Brock, President and CEO of the Leader Transition Institute.
Cara Loken, a National Guard wife and the 2016 Armed Forces Insurance National Guard Military Spouse of the Year, created heARTS for Healing after noticing how much art helped her son as he transitioned out of the military and into civilian life. heARTS for Healing advances the arts to promote healing and well-being through art classes at no cost to our veterans and military members, their caregivers, families, and others. They have served over 8,000 people, many of them military-connected, since 2021.
Until now, Loken has provided art programming for service members, veterans, and their family members in Nebraska and western Iowa. As the principal artist serving the Leader Transition Institute, she will share her talents with service members, veterans, and military spouses stationed around the world.

Bel Air, MD – The Leader Transition Institute Inc., Maryland’s premier provider of services for transitioning military personnel, veterans, and military spouses is excited to announce the appointment of three new Board Members.
“I am thrilled to announce that the Leader Transition Institute’s Board of Directors has appointed Jenni Dobbs, PhD, Alysha Richey, and Matthew P. Wee to join us.” said Annie Brock, President and CEO of the Leader Transition Institute.
Ms. Jennifer C. Fajardo-Dobbs, PhD, is an educator, learning and development professional, military spouse advocate, and lifelong learner. She is an adjunct lecturer at the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies, University of the Philippines – Open University (UPOU).
Dr. Dobbs has over 15 years of experience spanning higher education, instructional design models and frameworks, and classroom management in traditional, hybrid, and online modes. As a military spouse, Dr. Dobbs has been immersed in research, education, and training endeavors to support resilience and mental health initiatives. She was recognized as the 2024 Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year (Minot Air Force Base) and was one of the Air Force branch finalists. She co-founded the Foreign-Born Military Spouse Network and is Co-Lead for the MacDill AFB/Tampa Chapter of the Military Spouse Professional Network and Marketing Mentor of #ICanHelp x Digital4Good, an organization empowering teens and young adults to become better digital citizens. Ms. Dobbs lives in St. Petersburg, FL.
Ms. Alysha Richey, Founder and Senior Project Director of Richey LLC, has over a decade of expertise in managing large-scale initiatives. Having supported numerous veteran friends and family members, including her husband, through their transitions to civilian life, Ms. Richey is passionate about serving the veteran community. She combines her deep commitment to helping others with her strong project management skills, having successfully led initiatives that drive operational efficiency and business growth.
Outside of her professional work, Ms. Richey is a dedicated advocate for her community and family, especially her three sons. As a head track coach, she fosters leadership, discipline, and a team mentality in young athletes. Ms. Richey’s dedication to creating a better world drives her to support initiatives that promote personal growth, community wellness, and meaningful change. Ms. Richey lives in Glencoe, MN.
Mr. Matthew P. Wee is a Foreign Affairs Officer at the US Department of State. Prior to joining the Civil Service, Mr. Wee served for 20 years in the United States Marine Corps where he held various roles in personnel administration, training and operations, and as a Foreign Area Staff Non-Commissioned Officer. Prior to his military retirement, Mr. Wee was a HillVets Defense and Veterans Fellow.
Subsequent to his military retirement, Mr. Wee supported the Ted Stevens Center for Arctic Security Studies as a Senior Event Program Planner from Human Domain Solutions. He is a dedicated member of the Capital One Arena Usher team committed to ensuring the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of guests attending a wide range of sports events, concerts, and entertainment experiences. Dedicated to serving the military and veteran communities, Mr. Wee serves Vets2Industry as their Director of Events. Mr. Wee lives in Washington, DC.

WASHINGTON – The Leader Transition Institute is thrilled to announce it has been selected as a Department of Labor Veterans’ Employment and Training Service, Employment Navigator Partnership Program partner.
The partnership is designed to support active-duty service members and their spouses, along with veterans from all eras, and complement the department’s traditional transition workshops.
“Transition can be challenging, and the support from LTI for our transitioning service members, and their spouses, makes it easier for them to chart their new course,” said James Rodriguez, Assistant Secretary, US Department of Labor, Veterans’ Employment and Training Service.
LTI CEO Annie Brock says, “We look forward to working with VETS and ENPP to help bridge the gap between where people are and where they want to be.” She added, “LTI’s Changing Focus: Moving From We to Me program directly addresses the challenges service members encounter as they adapt from serving in the military to reintegrating, and living and working in a civilian community.”
LTI now joins 58 nongovernmental and two governmental organizations in the program, operating across 31 military installations worldwide.

WASHINGTON – The Leader Transition Institute will host a Pathway to Success; Navigating the Transition from Military to Civilian Life kickoff on a LinkedIn / Facebook / Youtube Livestream on September 13th at 2pm EDT. The event will discuss the Leader Transition Institute’s flagship program, Changing Focus: Moving From We to Me. Members will share information on how the curriculum fills the gaps left by the Department of Defense’s Transition Assistance Program. Alumni testimonials will reveal the impact the program had on their lives.
LTI CEO Annie Brock said “we’re looking forward to expressing the unique impact this program has on the military transition space while asking for support from the veteran assistance community, military leaders, journalists, and influencers.”
The Changing Focus: Moving from We to Me program is free. Each participant receives a box of supplies with everything they need for their cohort. They complete the leading industry-recognized Maxwell Leadership Communications and Growth Impact assessment and become aware of how people perceive their communication. They’ll learn how to recognize other people’s behavioral cues, leading to better communication with their family, at work, and during job interviews.
Participants learn the benefits and components of living a purposeful life, and using their purpose statement and vision plan as a roadmap to their life.
Additionally, they learn about financial topics important to their transition and complete the Money Habitudes assessment to gain an understanding of their financial behaviors and habits.
The program directly addresses the challenges service members encounter as they adapt from serving in the military to reintegrating, living and working in the civilian community. LTI opens the aperture of service members and enhances their confidence as each embarks on their military transition journey.
Service members and their spouses will be able to sign up for the next cohort during the event.
