Questions We Get Asked
Start here
It’s for service members, veterans of ANY era, and military spouses ready to move beyond “what’s next?” and start defining who they are now.
Some participants are preparing to transition.
Others have been out for years but still feel stuck, unclear, or underutilized.
If you’re ready to think differently about your future—not just update your resume—you’re in the right place.
You’re not behind—you’re exactly who this is for.
Many participants participate years after leaving the military when they realize something still isn’t clicking in their lives.
This program meets you where you are.
It helps you reconnect the dots in a way that finally makes sense.
Perfect.
You don’t need to have the answers—that’s the point of the program.
What you do need is a willingness to think, reflect, and engage honestly in the process.
Clarity comes from doing the work, not waiting for it to appear.
Yes. We recognize that military transition is a team sport.
Military spouses and long-term partners transition alongside their service members.
Our programs are open to spouses and long-term partners, providing a shared language and framework for navigating the transition into the civilian sector together.
Couples can participate in the same cohort or in separate cohorts—whatever works for them.
How Changing Focus: Moving From We to Me is different.
Most programs focus on helping you translate your military experience into civilian terms.
We focus on helping you understand yourself—so you can build a future that actually fits.
That shift changes everything:
- From job hunting → to direction setting
- From external validation → to internal clarity
- From “what can I do?” → to “what do I want to build?”
While TAP covers the administrative requirements of leaving the military (like benefits and basic resume writing), Changing Focus: Moving From We to Me fills the “emotional and leadership gaps.”
We focus on the human side of the pivot—communication styles, personality assessments (DISC), and the mental shift required to lead in a corporate environment.
No—and that’s intentional.
We don’t place you into a job.
We help you become the kind of person who can confidently choose the right opportunities and pursue them with clarity.
Participants often leave with stronger resumes, clearer messaging, and better interviews—but those are outcomes, not the starting point.
Transitioning is more than just a job search.
It’s a mindset shift.
Changing Focus: Moving From We to Me is specifically designed to help you move from the “unit-first” military mindset to a “self-actualized” civilian career.
We help you rediscover your personal purpose and translate your military values into a civilian context.
What you’ll walk away with.
Participants consistently walk away with:
- A clearer sense of identity outside the military
- Language to describe their value with confidence
- Greater self-awareness and decision-making clarity
- A renewed sense of direction and momentum
In short: you stop guessing—and start choosing.
We provide a holistic toolkit including the DISC Personality Assessment, personal purpose statement development, and intensive communication training.
These tools are designed to help you not just find a job, but to excel as a leader in your new life.
It’s not just what we teach—it’s how we do it.
This is a highly interactive experience that combines:
- Guided reflection
- Hands-on exercises (yes, including creative ones)
- Real conversations with others going through similar transitions
You don’t sit back and listen—you actively build your next chapter.
What most people wonder.
The program is 24 hours total—a Thursday evening, all day Friday and Saturday, and Sunday morning.
It’s immersive by design.
Real clarity doesn’t come from a one-hour webinar.
If you show up fully, you’ll get far more than information.
You’ll get a transformation.
If you’re too busy to get clear on your direction, you risk spending even more time moving in the wrong direction.
This program is designed to save you time in the long run.
Because better clarity leads to better decisions—faster.
Yes, it’s free.
There’s no catch—but there is an expectation: that you show up, engage, and take it seriously.
This program is funded through our partnerships and training work so that participants can focus fully on their own growth.
You’re not required to share anything you’re not ready to.
Most participants find that the shared experience becomes one of the most valuable parts of the program.
You’ll quickly realize—you’re not the only one figuring this out.
It’s not about checking boxes—it’s about changing perspective.
Many participants come in skeptical because they’ve “been through TAP” or other programs.
They leave realizing this is the first time they’ve actually been asked to think about themselves.
What happens next?
You don’t just leave with notes.
You leave with clarity, language, and next steps.
Many participants continue engaging through our free, virtual alum programs:
- Book studies
- Workshops (resume and LinkedIn)
- Monthly gatherings (Community Connections, Peer Mentoring)
But the most important outcome?
You leave knowing how to move forward on your own.
But you’re not alone.
Absolutely. We support veterans of all eras.
Whether you are 24 months out from separation or have been a civilian for a decade and feel “stuck,” we’re here to help you make your next big pivot.
You’ve seen what this is—and what it isn’t.
Now the only question is:
Is this right for you?
If you’re looking for someone to tell you exactly what to do next in your life, this probably isn’t it.
If you’re ready to understand yourself at a deeper level—and build a future that actually fits—then we’d love to have you join us. You can register at: https://leadertransitioninstitute.org/changing-focus/
